This story happened to me, my best friend, Alya, and one of our friends, Dylan. Please note that every name used here, including mine, is fake. They are made-up names to protect the real people.
It was our senior year of high school. Alya and I had two classes out of four together. During our second block, Mrs. Cartier, our gym coach, had the class outside on the track and football field. Alya and I went back inside the classroom to get our water bottles when Dylan walked into the classroom. He stopped in the doorway as me and Alya took our water bottles and sat down on the old lounge couch in the back of the classroom.
“May I ask why you’re in here, Dylan?” I asked with a crooked look on my face.
“We agreed to meet up during second block,” he replied.
“For what?” Alya asked.
“To plan our senior prank.” I answered before Dylan got the chance to open his mouth.
The three of us, Alya, Dylan, and I, have always been the ones to get into trouble. Not with drugs or anything like that, but we would get caught skipping class, getting into a fight every now and then, or back-talking the teachers and stuff like that.
“So does anyone have any ideas?” Dylan asked.
“I have one.” I said.
“Go for it.” said Dylan.
“Okay, so at the end of the year when we have that big assembly, they have us go into the locker rooms to use the bathroom, right?” I started explaining.
“Right.” Dylan and Alya both replied a few seconds apart.
“So my idea is we can bring two of the small bluetooth speakers, set them up in the locker rooms, girls and boys. Watch for someone to go into the locker room, and when they do we can play some sort of creep noise and wait for them to run out screaming.” I finished.
“Okay, so I like the idea. What about you Alya?” Dylan commented.
“I like it too.” Alya answered.
“Okay so does Saturday work for you all to set it up? Because I think we have the assembly Monday.” Dylan asked.
“Yeah that’s fine. What time? Maybe around 9:30 to 10:00 p.m.?” I answered for me and Alya both.
“Yeah. 9:30 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.” Dylan said before saying bye and leaving the classroom.
We all spend the rest of the week buying speakers and brainstorming ideas for the sound. We all agreed to meet up at the gas station a block away from the school. I managed to get an extra set of keys from the janitor’s closet so we could get into the school without sounding the alarms.
We met up at the gas station on Saturday. We all got there around 9:45 p.m. We each brought something to use for the prank. I brought the speakers, Dylan brought the tools to set it up, and Alya brought stuff to cover it up and hide it. We all made sure to wear black. Solid black.
We agreed to get a small snack or candy bar from the gas station first. We each got something to eat and drink. Dylan bought a pack of zip ties too. And at 10:00 p.m. we started heading towards the school.
We went around through the parking lot and around the corner of the building to one of the side doors that led into the cafeteria. Once we got through the door, we headed towards the gym. We got to the gym doors when we heard a noise from behind us. We all turned around and saw nothing, so we thought of it as we were just scared of being caught.
We got into the gym and went towards the boys locker room door. Since no one was here, we decided it didn’t matter if we went in there. We walked down a short hallway that led to the lockers, stalls, and showers.
The first thing we did was make sure there was nobody there. Even though they weren’t supposed to be, and yet we were. After we made sure there wasn’t anybody there, we started getting the stuff out of the bag we carried all of it in.
We got out the screwdriver and opened one of the lockers with it. We put the speaker up in the top corner of the locker using a couple zip ties. We got it set up in about ten minutes and covered it with some torn up old books that the library through out.
We just sorta raided the old library books. We hunted out the ones that seemed like text books or research books, stuffed them into Alya’s bag, and brought them here.
After we set the speaker up in the boys’ locker room, we headed up to the walking trak, where the girls’ locker room is. Once we got to the door, we got out the flashlights Dylan brought for us. We had to bring flashlights for the girls’ locker room because all of the light don’t work most of the time, only a few lights do.
We went into the locker room and started getting the stuff ready. We started getting paranoid at that point, like someone was watching us. So we were all constantly looking around, trying to figure out what was going on and who was there.
After about five minutes, we ended up needing more zip ties, so I walked over to where our bag was, got the zip ties, looked up and that’s when I saw it.
That THING staring at me. It wasn’t like anything I had ever seen. It looked like it came out of one of those weirdly realistic horror movies.
It was some sort of horrifying mix of raw meat and jagged bones. What should have been its jaw, was just meat and blood, while its torso was just jagged bones that looked like they had been filed to look like piranha teeth. It stood around 7 foot tall, slim, with dark red beady eyes, and (Like I said before) boney.
“Oh, motherfucker.” I whispered quietly, but loud enough for Dylan and Alya to hear.
They turned and just stared at that THING, as it stared back at us.
“Run. Scream. Kick. Cry. Do whatever you want to. Or at least try.” That THING said with a voice that was….. sorta empty. Like a meaningless void of nothingness.
We all looked around at each other, unable to move. We couldn’t move, talk, or scream. Alya tried to scream, but all that came out was a small squeak. When she squeaked that THING looked at her with its head tilted slightly, mouth openly grinning with what seemed like shark teeth or piranha teeth.
She just stood there shivering with fear. There wasn’t anything she could do but stare. She stared and we were there for what seemed like forever. We finally caught the THING looking away, so we all went to a corner and huddled together and cried silently.
Alya and Dylan eventually stopped crying. I cried for what seemed like days. There was nothing else I could do but cry. We all whispered low enough for each other to hear but that THING couldn’t.
We agreed to let two of us get some sleep, while one of us kept watch and swapped about every hour to hour and a half. I stayed first watch. I didn’t feel safe. I couldn’t sleep.
I stared at the THING as it stared back at me. It just stared. It did nothing else but stare and grin with its piranha-like teeth and with that emptiness in its eyes.
I had nothing else to do. I checked my phone but that THING turned into a goddamn alarm clock, screeching. It hurt my ears and I guess it hurt Alya’s and Dylan’s ears too, because they shot up and sorta screamed and sorta cried.
We covered our ears until that THING shut it’s fucking mouth. And that wasn’t until I put my phone in the back pocket of my jeans.
After about five minutes of ear piercing screeching, the THING shut up. Dylan said that he would take next watch so I could get some rest.
I couldn’t fall asleep for a while. It took me maybe 10 to 15 minutes before I could sleep.
While Dylan was up, he said the THING went to the other corner and curled up, still watching us for a little bit, but fell asleep. But as soon as I woke up, it did too.
I woke up screaming and panicking. Looking around to see if it was all just a bad dream. As I wished it was. I soon realized that it was true. It did happen. I didn’t want to believe that it was true, but it was. Simple as that. It was. I couldn’t escape reality. No matter how bad I wanted to, I couldn’t.
“Why?” I asked over and over again.
“I don’t know,” Dylan said as he held me while I was crying.
Dylan has had the biggest crush on me as far back as I can remember. He was always there. No matter what. Even if we argued five minutes before, he was still there for me.
“We shouldn’t have done this,” I was constantly saying.
“It’s gonna be okay.” Dylan was trying to reassure me.
Alya was still sleeping. When she gets scared really bad, it makes her tired. So she sleeps a lot after being traumatized.
Dylan leaned down and kissed my cheek. I just looked at him with tears rolling down my face. He smiled and I smiled back. I leaned in closer and laid against his chest.
“Thank you.” I said softly.
“You’re welcome, Shorty,” He responded as he tightened his grip on me.
Shorty. That was a nickname he gave me when we were in maybe the 5th grade. Every other year I had been taller than him. But he hit his growth spurt and ended up being taller than me ever since. So he started calling me Shorty.
I smiled and held myself closer to him. He started petting my head and playing with my hair. We looked over at Alya, who was still sleeping, she started shivering and whimpering. We wanted to help her but we were afraid to move. Especially with that THING watching every move we make.
Three days had passed. It was Tuesday. So there were people coming into the locker room, but no one could see us or the THING crouched in the corner. We were invisible to them. They couldn’t see us, but we could see them.
Alya has been sleeping for three days. Dylan and I are starting to get worried. Her breathing was raspy and hard, she was constantly sweating, and she shivered and screamed constantly. And when she did scream, the THING just looked at her.
Dylan changed positions so I could lay down to sleep. He sat against the corner and had his legs sorta spread, so I was laying in between his legs with my head on his thigh. He played with my hair until I fell asleep.
After I fell asleep, Dylan said that THING fell asleep too. Dylan doesn’t think that it’s a coincidence. He thinks that since I was the first to see it and to make eye contact with it, that it somehow linked itself to me.
“Dylan, I’m scared,” I said when I woke up.
“It’s okay. You’re okay.” he was trying to reassure me that we would be okay.
“Alya’s getting worse. I really can’t afford to think like this, but I have a feeling she won’t make it. I mean none of us will, but I feel like she will be the first to go.” I told Dylan, crying.
“I know. I do too. I don’t want her to but it’s bound to happen eventually.” Dylan said as he held me close to his chest.
“No! No! No! NO! NO! NO!!!!!” Alya screamed.
She got up for the first time in three or four days. But when she woke up she was…..off. Her eyes were dark, her face was red, she was drooling, and she, I know this sounds crazy, but she sounded like a Howler Monkey.
We both knew what that meant at that point in time. She was already gone. There wasn’t anything either of us could do. We lost her. I lost her.
I just lost my best friend. And all of it was my fault. I’m the one who wanted to do this fucking prank. I’m the one who thought of it. I thought it was a good idea. I lost my best friend to a mother fucking demon who just stared at me with nothing but emptiness in its eyes. And now I had nothing but hate in my eyes.
I just broke down crying. Not knowing what I did wrong. Why it was after me. Why it just hated me and targeted me and just me. Why it wouldn’t just leave me alone already.
“What is your problem? Why the hell do you hate me? What did I do to you? Why can’t I leave this nightmare? YOU ALREADY TOOK MY BEST FRIEND AWAY FROM ME, AND NOW I CAN’T GET HER BACK! WHY THE FUCK WON’T YOU JUST LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE?!?!?!?!?!” I screamed at that THING.
I lost it. I broke at that point. They took one of the only things I ever loved. I had only ever loved two things: Alya and Dylan. And all I had left was Dylan.
“Carson! Carson, calm down. Please, you’re going to get hurt. Please just stop it.” He was crying.
I was hurting him. I couldn’t live with the guilt. Of knowing that it was my fault Alya was gone, and that I was hurting Dylan.
I don’t know why I did it but I did. I leaned down and kissed Dylan. Trying to let him know that I cared and that I loved him.
“I love you Dylan. I always have. I don’t know why it took me so long to say it, but I did. And I’m sorry for hurting you and hurting Alya. And this whole thing is my fault.” I said through tears in my eyes and rolling down my face.
“I love you too, Carson. And I always will. No matter what happens here.” Dylan replied.
“Then please forgive me for this. For what I’m going to do. And promise me one thing.” I said.
“What is it?” Dylan asked.
“Promise me that you won’t cry and you will always love me.” I said back.
“I promise that I’ll always love you and I will TRY not to cry.” he said.
“Thank you. I love you Dylan.”
And as soon as I said that I took the wire cutters from the bag we had and stabbed myself in the throat, trying to end all of it. To end the pain and suffering. To end my hurt and brokenness.
That’s how I ended up in Hell before I was supposed to. Before I was ready. Before the end. And I’m back with Alya. Neither of us are hurting anymore. We are back together. We are happy. And I will wait for Dylan, no matter how long it takes.
Welcome to Hell.
*Part two is coming soon!!!*
